Why CFO Stride was founded

CFO Stride was founded after years spent working inside businesses as accountants and finance professionals, seeing the same gap again and again: small and mid-sized companies had good bookkeepers or accountants, but rarely anyone thinking ahead about cash flow, growth, or the story behind the numbers. Traditional accounting firms are often built around compliance — getting the accounts filed, the tax return submitted — rather than helping a business owner actually use their finances to make better decisions. CFO Stride was set up to offer that strategic layer, without a business having to hire a full-time CFO it doesn't yet need or can't yet afford.

What we're trying to do

CFO Stride exists to give growing businesses access to the kind of financial thinking that's usually reserved for much larger companies — proactive, practical, and easy to understand. The aim is simple: help business owners make clearer, better-informed financial decisions, without the jargon or the guesswork. Whether that's building a rolling cash flow forecast, tightening up reporting, or being a sense-check on a big decision, the goal stays the same — clients should never feel like their finances are a black box.

Our background

CFO Stride is built on a foundation of 20 years' accounting and finance experience, spanning the not-for-profit, FMCG and energy sectors. That range has meant working closely with organisations at very different stages — from early-stage startups finding their financial footing, to established SMEs looking to professionalise and grow. Alongside the accounting side, there's strong working knowledge of finance systems and databases, meaning we can usually get under the bonnet of a business's numbers and reporting rather than just working from a spreadsheet handed over. That combination — deep, cross-sector accounting experience plus comfort with the systems businesses actually run on — is where we aim to add the most value.

How we work with clients

We work proactively rather than reactively — flagging things before they become problems, not just reporting on what already happened. We favour fixed, transparent pricing so there are no surprise invoices, and we lean on cloud accounting tools to keep things efficient and give clients real-time visibility rather than once-a-quarter updates. Most of all, we aim to build long-term relationships — a steady, trusted part of how a business runs its finances, not a one-off supplier.

What matters to us

Integrity, transparency and reliability aren't just words on a website — they're the basics we hold ourselves to, alongside a client-first approach, meaning the advice we give is shaped around what's actually right for each business, not a standard package.

Where we're headed

Our hope is for CFO Stride to become a genuinely trusted finance partner for SMEs — helping business owners grow with confidence, using a mix of solid financial expertise and smart use of technology. It's still early days, and we're building this one client relationship at a time.

A closing note

CFO Stride isn't about putting on a show — it's about doing the work properly, and making sure clients actually feel the benefit of having a finance partner who understands their numbers. If that's what you're looking for, we'd be glad to talk.
